HCMC – The 10th People’s Council of HCMC today, August 24 will elect new chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee to replace Nguyen Thanh Phong, who has been assigned as deputy head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission.

This is one of the important contents of the second meeting of the People’s Council of HCMC of the 2021-2026 tenure, which began this morning.

The meeting was attended by Nguyen Thanh Phong, secretary of the HCMC Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen, permanent deputy secretary of the HCMC Party Committee Phan Van Mai and chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of HCMC To Thi Bich Chau.

The Politburo on August 20 assigned Phong as vice chair of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission.

Phong, a member of the Party Central Committee, no longer belongs to the executive board and standing board of the HCMC Party Committee, nor holds the posts of deputy secretary of the committee for the 2020-2025 tenure and chairman of the municipal government for the 2021-2026 term.

Phan Van Mai will be introduced for the post of chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee to replace Phong.

Speaking at the meeting, chairwoman of the People’s Council of HCMC Nguyen Thi Le said the city is focusing on fighting the Covid-19 pandemic. However, due to the urgency of cadre work, the HCMC People’s Council organized the second meeting to finalize some important tasks.

Accordingly, the HCMC People’s Council carried out cadre work following directives of the Politburo and the HCMC Party Committee to consolidate the leadership of the HCMC People’s Committee.

During the meeting, the HCMC People’s Council will also discuss and adopt policies related to Covid-19 infection prevention and control, special support for frontline forces, and capital mobilization for the second Development Policy Operation among others.

Besides, the HCMC People’s Council will review recommendations and suggestions from the constituents and listen to the HCMC Department of Education and Training’s report on results of the 2020-2021 school year and preparation for the 2021-2022 school year.

Chairwoman of the People’s Council of HCMC Nguyen Thi Le said contents to be reviewed, discussed and adopted at this meeting are very important for the city to meet its socioeconomic development targets this year and are the legal basis for the operation of the HCMC People’s Council in the entire tenure.
