HCMC – All metro and bus services in HCMC will be offered free of charge on March 15, when Vietnamese voters go to the polls nationwide to elect the National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels, according to the HCMC Management Center of Public Transport.
The fare waiver applies to Metro Line No. 1, which connects Ben Thanh Market in downtown HCMC and Suoi Tien Theme Park, and all bus services across the city on the day voters elect deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term.
According to the center, 109 subsidized bus routes and nine non-subsidized routes—67, 109, 171, 172, 60-1, 60-3, 60-5, 60-7 and 63-1—will offer free rides throughout the day.
The policy is intended to facilitate travel for voters and encourage the use of public transport, contributing to lower traffic pressure on the election day.
Transport operators have been instructed to arrange sufficient vehicles and standby personnel. They are also required to monitor operations through GPS and camera systems to ensure safety and smooth service.
Route and schedule updates will be provided via the MultiGo application and electronic information boards to help passengers plan their trips.
The city has previously waived fares on Metro Line No. 1 during major holidays, including April 30, May 1, September 2, New Year’s Day and the 2026 Lunar New Year.
