HCMC – HCMC will invest about VND2.94 trillion from its budget to upgrade infrastructure and improve the environment of Ong Bau and Chin Xieng canals, according to the HCMC People’s Committee on April 28.

The city government has assigned Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Authority to oversee the project in An Nhon Ward, formerly part of Go Vap District.

The works will focus on treating water pollution caused by untreated domestic wastewater and solid waste, dredging the canals, and improving water flow.

The project also aims to increase drainage capacity and reduce localized flooding in nearby residential areas and roads, particularly during the rainy season.

Ong Bau canal will be upgraded along 380 meters, while Chin Xieng canal will cover 890 meters across multiple sections.

The project includes construction of roads, drainage systems, lighting, parks and green spaces along the canals to improve connectivity and infrastructure capacity.

The canals are among several waterways in HCMC that have been encroached upon and degraded over years, contributing to pollution and flooding.

The works will be implemented alongside other canal rehabilitation projects, including the Tham Luong–Ben Cat–Rach Nuoc Len canal and the Xuyen Tam canal, the latter scheduled for completion in 2028.
