HCMC – The Ministry of Health today, June 23, sent an urgent dispatch to HCMC and nine other provinces—Nam Dinh, Cao Bang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Daklak, Tien Giang, Lam Dong, Can Tho and Kien Giang—asking them to accelerate their slower-than-expected Covid-19 inoculation process.

According to the ministry, on May 20, it provided the HCMC Center for Disease Control (HCDC) with 70,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses, and institutes, hospitals and other units in the city with 4,500 doses, Tuoi Tre Online newspaper reported.

On June 17, HCDC continued receiving an additional 786,000 doses, and institutes, hospitals and other units were given 10,370 doses.

On June 14, the ministry asked the governments of localities to direct the relevant agencies to deploy the vaccination program as soon as they receive the Covid-19 vaccine doses and get it done before June 18.

However, HCMC’s local residents have received more than 50,000 doses or 69% of the third allocation distributed to the city and 6% of the second and third allocations, according to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.

Meanwhile, the nine remaining localities have injected less than 40% of the allocated vaccines.

Therefore, the Ministry of Health asked them to follow the prime minister’s direction to speed up the vaccination process and mobilize resources for the upcoming vaccination periods.
