HCMC – Hoc Mon wholesale market in HCMC’s outlying district of Hoc Mon is making efforts to maintain stable prices and ample supply to meet the high demand during the upcoming Lunar New Year, or Tet.
One month before Tet, the market aims to boost its daily product volume to 2,500 tons, an 8% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
Wholesalers are also preparing for heightened demand from customers, especially one to two weeks before Tet.
Le Van Tien, director of the market’s management board, stated the volume of products is expected to rise by 10% between February 4 and 9, or the immediate week ahead of Tet that falls on February 10. Some days may even witness a 50% surge in supply.
On February 8, the market anticipates an increase in the supply of pork items, with a daily quantity doubling to 780 tons.
Tien said sellers have plans to reserve commodities in cold storage facilities to ensure the availability of items, including fruits and vegetables.
Last year, the market collaborated with relevant authorities to conduct tests on 489 samples of pork, vegetables, and fruits. All test samples met the required standards.
The market organized training sessions for 152 individuals to enhance their understanding of food safety protocols and regulations. Furthermore, 896 vendors underwent health assessments.
There have been no reported cases of food poisoning linked to Hoc Mon wholesale market.
