CAN THO – Cao Lanh-Hoi An Cultural Days will be organized this month in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap, recreating a corner of Hoi An ancient town for people in the Southwest of Vietnam to admire, the local government said.
This event, with the theme “Peaceful connection – Elite convergence”, is being organized to introduce and promote the image and the cultural uniqueness of Cao Lanh – Hoi An, according to an announcement by the government of Cao Lanh City of Dong Thap Province.
The goal of the event is to promote economic development of the two cities, namely Cao Lanh of Dong Thap and Hoi An of Quang Nam, by connecting and supporting tourism.
Besides offering tourist companies with opportunities to develop their brands and promote services toward tourists, this event also aims to reserve and elevate the value of the intangible culture and tradition which will boost the tourism development, attract investment and build tourism brand of Cao Lanh City.
Cao Lanh – Hoi An City Cultural Days will recreate the Hoa An old village, the Southern stilt house, a corner of Hoi An ancient town, the art of making colorful lanterns of Hoi An and those typical of the South.
Accordingly, Cao Lanh City will have interactive activities such as “Don ca tai tu” – Dong Thap chantey, calligraphy, My Tra knitting, Tinh Thoi basketware made of water hyacinth, and folk chess among others. Meanwhile, Hoi An will introduce such activities as “Bai Choi”, calligraphy, making and floating flower lanterns, folk song, and Hoi An food specialties.
Phan Van Thuong, Secretary of Cao Lanh City’s Party Committee, told The Saigon Times that this is the second time the event is held in Cao Lanh City. “Last year, they (Hoi An) supported us (Cao Lanh) to celebrate cultural days with art and cuisine. But, this year there will be investment promotion activities included,” he said.
According to Thuong, a delegation from Hoi An City will arrive in Cao Lanh City where they will set up a Famtrip to visit famous places in Dong Thap to promote Hoi An with the goal to stimulate domestic tourism. In addition, they will also help Dong Thap to develop tourism, he said.
