Hue deals with serious landslides near hydropower dams

THUA THIEN HUE – All resources, including military helicopters, have been mobilized for rescue works in Phong Xuan Commune, Phong Dien District, Thua Thien Hue Province, that has been witnessing severe landslides next to the Rao Trang 3, the Rao Trang 4 and the A Lin B2 hydropower dams, according to an announcement released on October 14 by the provincial People’s Committee.

Today, October 14, the rescue team approached the areas around the three hydropower project sites in various ways, including on foot and by helicopter, to search for and rescue the wounded, look for those still missing as well as to supply food to those stuck in the landslides.

Nguyen Dai Thanh, Director of Rao Trang 3 Hydropower Project, said that he was informed about the deaths of three workers who were buried by the landslides that occurred on October 12. However, the identities of the victims could not be determined now due to the difficulty in recovering the bodies.

Previously, after receiving a report from locals on October 12 about the landslides at the Rao Trang 3 hydropower project, a team of 21 members from the High Command of Military Region 4 and the People’s Committee of Thua Thien Hue Province set out to come to their rescue.

In the evening of October 12, on the way to the site, the team took a break at the Forest Management and Protection Station No. 67. At midnight, there was a landslide right where the team members were sleeping. Eight narrowly escaped the disaster, while 13 others went missing.

In addition, according to information received at 5 a.m. on October 13, as many as 17 workers remained missing following the landslides at the Rao Trang 3 hydropower project.

In the afternoon of October 13, a team led by Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung left Hanoi for Thua Thien Hue to inspect the area. The rescue team gradually managed to rescue those who were stuck and sent them to other facilities for further treatment.
