HCMC – Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi today, September 14, announced that Japan would present an additional 1.3 million AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine doses to its Asian neighbors, including 400,000 doses to Vietnam.
Meanwhile, Taiwan will get 500,000 doses, Thailand, 300,000 doses, and Brunei, 100,000 doses, the local media reported.
It is unknown when the vaccine batch will arrive in Vietnam.
To date, Japan has donated more than 23 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine produced in Japan to countries in South Asia and the Pacific region, Motegi said.
In addition, Japan has contributed US$1 billion and 30 million vaccine doses to the COVAX Facility for distribution worldwide.
With the new vaccine donation, Japan has pledged 3.58 million AstraZeneca doses to Vietnam, according to the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan.
On September 3, Motegi said Japan would donate a total of 440,000 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine to Vietnam, Thailand and Taiwan.
