HCMC – The Ministry of Home Affairs said there is no plan to swap working days with weekends to extend the holidays for the Hung Kings’ death anniversary, Reunification Day on April 30 and International Labor Day on May 1, and that the holiday schedule will follow the 2019 Labor Code.

In a document sent to ministries, agencies and localities, the ministry said recent public discussion about a possible extended break through day-off swaps does not reflect official policy. It added that no proposal has been made to adjust the holiday schedule or introduce a swap arrangement to create a nine-day break.

The ministry requested agencies to implement the holiday schedule in line with existing regulations.

This year, the Hung Kings’ death anniversary falls on Sunday, April 26; hence, a compensatory day off on Monday, April 27, under the prevailing regulations. Therefore, Vietnamese will have three days off from April 25 to April 27.

The Reunification Day on April 30 and International Labor Day on May 1 fall on Thursday and Friday. For employees who do not work on Saturdays, the holiday lasts four days from April 30 to May 3, including the weekend.

The two holiday periods are separated by two working days, April 28 and 29.
