HCMC – The Ministry of Transport is seeking feedback from various ministries, as well as HCMC and Dong Nai Province, regarding the construction of a 42-kilometer rail line between Thu Thiem and Long Thanh, which is estimated to require over US$3.4 billion in investment.
According to the pre-feasibility study, the railway project aims to improve connectivity between Long Thanh International Airport and HCMC, while also promoting the development of urban areas along the route.
The main line will span 41.83 kilometers, with 11.75 kilometers passing through HCMC and 30.08 kilometers in Dong Nai Province. The railway will feature a double track with a standard gauge of 1,435 mm and will be electrified.
The line will begin at Thu Thiem station in An Phu Ward, Thu Duc City, HCMC, and end at Long Thanh International Airport in Long Thanh District, Dong Nai Province.
The majority of the route will be elevated, stretching 30.67 kilometers, which accounts for 66.34% of the total length, with the rest including underground and aboveground sections.
Designed as a mass rapid transit (MRT) system, the Thu Thiem-Long Thanh railway will have a maximum speed of 110 kilometers per hour.
