On August 4, 2022, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment organized the 5th National Environment Conference to sum up and assess the achievements and experiences in environmental protection in the 2016-2022 period and a vision toward the 2022-2025.

The National Environment Conference, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh, is a national event held by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment every five years.

As a pioneer in sustainable development, Nestlé Vietnam shared its circular economy models in production at the Exhibition on the Environmental protection achievements as part of the conference.

Within the framework of the event, the Exhibition was held on August 4 and 5 to showcase the achievements gained by the environment sector over the past 20 years. As a foreign-invested enterprise and the only consumer goods producer selected to participate in the exhibition, Nestlé Vietnam’s initiatives attracted the attention and appreciation of participants.

Accordingly, Nestlé Vietnam introduced two initiatives of the four focused activities aimed at Net zero by 2050 of the group and of Nestlé Vietnam, including the circular economy model in coffee production and the replacement of 100% plastic straws with paper straws for all beverage products with the use of straws.

Regarding the circular economy model in coffee production, Nestlé Vietnam contributes to reducing emissions by an average 12,679 tons of carbon dioxide per year, and using 100% biomass energy from used coffee grounds to replace 74.4% of the DO fuel used for the boilers. In addition, the initiative to use sustainable packages, especially the transition from plastic straws to paper straws certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), has helped reduce some 700 tons of plastic per annum.

In order to create a responsible consumption habit, particularly among the youth, Nestlé Vietnam has cooperated with agencies under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to carry out the “Say no to plastic straws” campaign, calling for millions of Vietnamese people joining hands for a green Vietnam.

Addressing the 5th National Environment Conference, Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh and leaders of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment highly valued the important progresses in environmental protection, the environment protection initiatives presented at the event, and the efforts and contributions of businesses, including Nestlé Vietnam.

Established in 1995, Nestlé Vietnam continues to expand investment and diversify products to meet the demand for foods and nutritional products, aiming at optimizing the role of foods so as to improve people’s living quality.

In 2021, the company was selected as the Most Sustainable Enterprise in Vietnam in manufacturing by the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development under the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Earlier, in 2019, Nestlé Vietnam was granted the Vietnam Environment Award by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment for its great achievements in environmental protection in the 2017-2019 period.
