HCMC – The Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information (ABEI) has told the Netflix streaming platform to comply strictly with Vietnamese laws regarding the provision of virtual e-gaming services in the country.
Following its recent inspections of online services, ABEI discovered that Netflix was promoting online games in Vietnam without proper authorization. These games were being distributed through apps provided by Netflix to Vietnamese users. Many of these e-games offered by Netflix via the App Store and Google Play Store Vietnam had not been authorized.
The authority stated that these actions violated Government regulations on the management, provision, and use of internet services and virtual information.
Netflix has been instructed to cease the advertising and distribution of e-games on its platform, as well as through the App Store and Google Play Store Vietnam, by April 25. The authority has also called on Netflix to comply with Vietnamese laws when providing services in the country.
Should Netflix fail to comply, the Ministry of Information and Communications and relevant authorities will take legal action against the service provider in accordance with Vietnamese law.
