HCMC – HCMC and many other parts of southern Vietnam will face a heat wave in the coming days, with temperatures ranging from 35 to 38 degrees Celsius, according to the National Centre for Hydrometeorological Forecasting.
A Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Center report said scorching weather will continue in a large area of southern Vietnam until May 6.
The southeastern region will have extremely hot weather, with temperatures ranging from 35-38 degrees Celsius in the daytime. Outdoor temperatures might reach 40-42 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, humidity in these areas will be relatively low, from 35% to 65%.
There will be extreme heat from 10:00 to 16:00 in a day.
Due to hot weather and low humidity, there is a high risk of fires and explosions in residential areas resulting from rising power consumption. Besides, hot weather causes dehydration, exhaustion and heat strokes in case of long exposure to high temperatures.
The ultraviolet radiation (UV) indexes in HCMC and elsewhere in southern Vietnam will pose a high risk of harm, according to the Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Center.
This May, average temperatures in many areas will be 0.5-1 degree Celsius higher than in the previous year. Till the middle of this month, Southwest winds will appear, increasing rainfall and reducing heat in the southern region.
