HCMC – The 8.5-kilometer-long elevated section of Hanoi’s metro line between Nhon and Hanoi Station will be put into operation by the end of this month.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the Nhon-Hanoi Station urban railway has concluded its trial runs and got safety certification.

Speaking at the second meeting on July 17 of the working team under the steering committee for urban railway projects in Hanoi and HCMC, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha urged Hanoi to inaugurate the Nhon-Hanoi Station line’s elevated section and HCMC to launch Metro Line No. 1, also known as Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien.

HCMC is slated to put into service its first metro line by the end of this year.

Emphasizing the importance of long-term urban railway network development, Deputy PM Ha called for the application of advanced technologies and international best practices.

The Ministry of Transport has been tasked with conducting an economic impact assessment of urban railway projects and the North-South high-speed railway.

The Hanoi and HCMC governments are directed to devise policies and mechanisms aimed at attracting private investment, leveraging transit-oriented development (TOD) and exploring public-private partnership (PPP), especially build-operate-transfer (BOT).
