HCMC – Law enforcement agencies have seized more than 76,800 suspected counterfeit products, weighing over 20 tons and consisting primarily of perfume and cosmetics, in the northern province of Bac Ninh.
Market surveillance forces and police confiscated the copycats at a warehouse in Vo Cuong Ward, Bac Ninh City, according to officials.
They earlier raided the warehouse, owned by Nguyen Duc Phu, 36, a native of Bac Ninh Province.
As the warehouse has neither a street address nor signboard, and closed most of the time, officials said law enforcement had struggled to inspect business operations at the site.
The warehouse owner said he mainly stored cosmetic products, such as cleansing water, lipstick, exfoliants, and facial cleansers of popular brands, such as Innisfree and Bioderma, at the 50-square-meter facility.
Also, police discovered nearly 25,000 perfume products bearing the most popular brands, including Chanel, Gucci, Dior, Versace, and Victoria’s Secret, which were said to be newly transported to the warehouse.
According to Phu, the warehouse was put into service early this year.
Law enforcement concluded that the facility allegedly trades in smuggled, counterfeit products and violates intellectual property rights.
All of the items were sealed and transported to a facility of a local market surveillance division for further investigation.
