HCMC – More than 50% of swiftlet nesting houses in Khanh Hoa Province are at risk of closure due to new zoning regulations, according to local authorities.

The Khanh Hoa Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine reported that the province is home to about 60,000 buffaloes and cows, over 300,000 pigs, and 3.3 million poultry birds across more than 50,000 farms, including 812 swiftlet nesting houses.

Of these, over 5,000 livestock and poultry farms and around 450 swiftlet nesting houses are in areas now designated as no-farming zones.

The Khanh Hoa People’s Committee has ordered these establishments to cease operations or relocate by January 1, 2025, in accordance with Resolution No. 17, which restricts livestock and poultry farming in urban and residential areas.

Authorities are reviewing and listing all farms and swiftlet farms in the restricted zones. This process must be completed by July 31.

After the review, affected establishments will be required to sign commitments to stop operations or move to designated areas. Reports will be submitted to the Khanh Hoa Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to ensure strict management.

Swiftlet houses operational before the effective date of Resolution No. 17, which was January 1, 2021, will also be reviewed. These can continue operating but must comply with current regulations.
