HCMC – Vietnam’s Party General Secretary To Lam has met with leaders of Cuba, China, Uzbekistan, and Slovakia during his visit to Russia to attend the Victory Day parade.
During a reception for foreign leaders hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 8 (local time), Party General Secretary To Lam met with Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and called for both countries to strengthen practical cooperation, particularly in railway connectivity.
Lam emphasized the importance of turning science and technology, along with digital transformation, into new pillars and growth engines of Vietnam-China relations. He also urged greater support for training Vietnamese talent in these fields.
He also expressed hope that both sides would continue to promote stable and healthy trade growth, and called on China to further expand imports of Vietnamese agricultural products, seafood, and other goods.
Party General Secretary Xi Jinping welcomed Party General Secretary To Lam’s proposals on directions and measures to strengthen bilateral ties.
He affirmed that China attaches great importance to its comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and the shared future community of strategic significance with Vietnam.

In a separate meeting with First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) Central Committee and President of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, Lam reaffirmed that Vietnam will always remember Cuba’s unwavering support during the country’s fight for national independence.
He stressed the need for both sides to continue implementing high-level agreements and commitments, and to work closely to strengthen cooperation across all areas, particularly in economics, trade, agriculture, food security, and energy security. He also reaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent stance of not supporting unilateral sanctions against Cuba.
Miguel Díaz-Canel affirmed that he would instruct Cuban ministries and agencies to strengthen coordination with Vietnam in implementing the outcomes of Party General Secretary To Lam’s state visit to Cuba in September 2024, with a focus on boosting investment and trade ties, particularly in agricultural cooperation and food security.

In talks with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Party General Secretary To Lam expressed Vietnam’s readiness to serve as a bridge for strengthening Uzbekistan’s cooperation with Southeast Asian countries.
He called on Uzbekistan to support Vietnam in expanding ties with Central Asian countries and promoting interregional connectivity.
President Mirziyoyev agreed with the proposals and expressed support for strengthening bilateral relations, praising the recent visit to Uzbekistan by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.
