HCMC – The 16th National Assembly has unanimously elected Party General Secretary To Lam, a deputy of the NA, as State President of Vietnam for the 2026-2031 term.
The resolution was passed at the NA session this morning, April 7, with all 495 NA deputies present voting in favor.
Following his election, Lam was sworn in as State President, pledging absolute loyalty to the Fatherland, the people and the Constitution, and a commitment to fulfill all responsibilities entrusted by the Party, the State and the people.
This marks the second time Party General Secretary To Lam has been elected by the National Assembly to serve as State President.
Previously, at the 7th sitting of the 15th NA on May 22, 2024, he was elected as State President for the 2021-2026 term. In August 2024, while serving as State President, he was elected Party General Secretary by the 13th Party Central Committee.
He continued to hold the position of State President until October 21, 2024, at the 8th sitting of the 15th NA.
