HCMC – Le Viet Chu, former secretary of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee, has been expelled from the Party as per the decision of the Party Central Committee (PCC).
The expulsion followed a request of the Politburo during the PCC’s extraordinary meeting held today, April 26.
The PCC stated that Chu, 61, had committed degradation in political ideology, morality and lifestyle; infringed Party and State regulations; violated the don’ts for Party members and the rules on responsibility of Party members to act as role models; and received bribes.
His actions resulted in severe consequences and public disgrace, damaging the reputation of the Party.
Chu held the position of secretary of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee for the 2015 – 2020 term.
The Politburo had disciplined Chu on June 16, 2020, in response to the request made by the Central Inspection Committee. This action stemmed from a series of his violations in Party and State regulations. A week later, he formally tendered his resignation as secretary of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee.
On March 28, Chu was detained by the Investigation Agency of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on alleged charges of taking bribes in the Phuc Son Group case.
