HCMC – Quang Tri Province has announced to begin work on an airport in June with commercial service scheduled to start in late 2026.
According to Vo Van Hung, chairman of Quang Tri People’s Committee, the north-central province is working with investors to expedite construction work while Gio Linh District is also actively clearing the site.
Gio Linh District has completed the placement of planning markers, assessed environmental impact and paid funds for reforestation. Other preparation steps such as conducting land surveying work, managing land use rights, and issuing land reclamation notices have also been done.
The province has directed this district to accelerate the process, striving to hand over 136.2 hectares of land to investors before May 31 and complete clearing 100% of land before December this year.
The project received approval from the prime minister in December 2021 for investment under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) format, with mixed functions as a domestic civilian airport terminal and a military airport. Spanning an area of 316.6 hectares, the project requires a total investment of VND5,821 billion, or US$257 million.
