HCMC – Vietnam Railway Transport JSC has raised passenger fares by 3% and freight charges by 3% to 5% from April 5 given the sharp spike in fuel prices.

The adjustment follows a surge in diesel prices to VND44,980 per liter late on April 3, up about 18.4% against March 26, when the fuel was priced at VND37,890 per liter.

The railway sector already revised up fares and freight rates on March 26.

Passengers who purchased tickets before the increase are not affected, the operator said. Updated fare, freight and schedule information is available on the company’s website.

Travel demand is expected to rise during the Hung Kings’ death anniversary and the April 30 and May 1 holidays, prompting the railway sector to add services on key routes linking HCMC with Quy Nhon, Nha Trang and Phan Thiet during the peak travel period.

Specifically, additional services will run on the Saigon-Quy Nhon route, with train SE30 departing Saigon Railway Station on April 24, 25, 29 and 30 and May 1, and train SE29 departing Quy Nhon on April 26, 27 and 30 and May 2 and 3.

On the Saigon-Nha Trang route, additional services include train SNT4 departing Saigon on April 24, 29 and 30, and train SNT6 departing Saigon on April 29. From Nha Trang, train SNT3 will depart on May 2, while train SNT5 will depart on April 27 and May 2 and 3.
