HCMC – The Railway Transport Joint Stock Company revised up passenger ticket prices by 10% and freight charges by 15% from March 8 due to rising fuel costs driven by global oil market volatility.
The company said on March 9 that escalating tensions in the Middle East have caused strong and unpredictable fluctuations in global fuel markets, increasing operating costs for transport firms.
According to Petrolimex, the diesel price reached VND30,230 per liter at 3:00 p.m. on March 7, up 31.26% compared with the level announced at 3:00 p.m. on March 5 and 56.88% higher than the price recorded at 3:00 p.m. on February 26.
The railway operator said the rapid increase in a short period has created significant pressure on fuel expenses used for train operations and rail logistics.
To align with business conditions and maintain stable operations, the company decided to increase passenger ticket prices by 10% from the level applied before the adjustment and raise freight transport charges by 15%.

Meanwhile, several interprovincial bus operators have also adjusted ticket prices on routes from HCMC to the Central Highlands and central provinces due to higher fuel costs.
Phuong Hong Linh bus operator has increased limousine ticket prices by around 10% on routes between HCMC and the Central Highlands starting March 8.
Ngoc Thuong bus operator on the HCMC–Binh Dinh route raised ticket prices to VND320,000, up VND20,000 from the previous level. Another operator, Hai Luan, running the HCMC–Dak Lak route, increased fares by VND50,000 per ticket.
A representative of Mien Tay Bus Station said no transport firms operating at the station have yet submitted requests to raise ticket prices, as fuel prices have only recently increased and companies may need several more days to complete procedures.
A representative of Mien Dong Bus Station said transport firms are expected to adjust ticket prices this week after completing the required procedures with authorities.
