HCMC – Vietnam’s total retail sales of consumer goods and services reached around VND4.1 quadrillion in the first eight months of 2024, an 8.5% rise compared to the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam.
The increase in domestic consumption and production, along with the robust growth of tourism, has driven the trade and services sector’s growth this year.
Retail revenue from goods alone amounted to nearly VND3.2 quadrillion, representing 77.1% of the total, with a year-on-year increase of 7.3%. Categories such as food, household items, and vehicles recorded growth of between 4% and 10%.
Revenue from lodging and dining services hit around VND481.2 trillion, accounting for 11.6% of the total and showing a 14.3% rise from the previous year.
The travel services sector saw strong results as well, with revenue approaching VND41 trillion, a 26.2% jump against last year.
From January to August, the consumer price index (CPI) rose by 4.04% year-on-year, while core inflation increased by 2.71%. In August alone, the CPI saw a 3.45% rise from the same period last year.
