HCMC – The “Saigon Times – Great Circle – Helping Students Get Back to School Post Storm” program on September 21 donated hundreds of gifts to three schools in Chiem Hoa District, Tuyen Quang Province, assisting students in recovering from the devastation caused by typhoon Yagi and subsequent flooding.

The relief effort raised over VND700 million and provided supplies valued at more than VND2 billion. These included school supplies, rice cookers, food, and cash donations.

Donations were distributed to Xuan Quang Kindergarten, Xuan Quang Primary School, and Xuan Quang Secondary School.

At Xuan Quang Kindergarten, organizers and business representatives handed out 900 notebooks, 77 rice cookers, 200 baskets of eggs, 300 bottles of oil, and other supplies totaling VND38.5 million to 302 students.

Xuan Quang Primary School received 2,530 notebooks, 150 rice cookers, 258 pairs of sandals, and other items valued at VND75 million, benefiting 424 students. Meanwhile, at Xuan Quang Secondary School, 392 students were given 2,420 notebooks, 150 rice cookers, 242 pairs of sandals, and additional supplies worth VND75 million.

Although the gifts were modest, they provided timely support to encourage students to continue their studies and prepare for the new school year, said Nguyen Thi Kim Tieng, head of the organizing committee and permanent vice chairwoman of the 2030 Business Club under the Saigon Times Club.

Nguyen Van Phong, principal of Xuan Quang Secondary School, expressed deep gratitude to the organizers and hoped that the program would expand further to assist more families and students in northern Vietnam. “Many students’ homes were flooded, with crops and livestock lost. This support is vital to help them recover and regain the confidence to return to school,” Phong said.

Chiem Hoa District endured heavy flooding and landslides, which affected 300 households, and destroyed 53 homes.

Crops and livestock were severely impacted, with over 974 hectares of rice and nearly 500 hectares of corn damaged. Additionally, 1,500 pigs and 9,000 poultry were swept away by the floods.

The “Saigon Times – Great Circle – Helping Students Get Back to School Post Storm” program will extend its support to six more schools in Yen Bai Province on September 22 and 23. Launched by the Saigon Times Group in partnership with the 2030 Business Club, the Saigon Times Market & Real Estate Club (SMRC), and the Branding Club, the initiative aims to bring students back to school and support storm-affected schools in their recovery.
