HCMC – The HCMC People’s Committee has approved the land reclamation component of the Can Gio coastal tourism urban area project, which will reclaim 1,357 hectares of seafront land with a total investment of over VND64.4 trillion.
The large-scale development is located in Long Hoa Commune and Can Thanh Town in Can Gio District. It will cover a total area of 2,870 hectares and be implemented as a Category A project with a 50-year usage term.
Planned as a modern seaside tourism city, the project will include resorts, convention centers, smart city infrastructure, high-tech services, residential zones, commercial areas, and hotels.
The reclamation works, covering 1,357 hectares, will involve ground leveling, lake and sea embankments, and other infrastructure components. Completion is targeted for 2031 and includes components such as ground leveling, lake embankments, and sea embankments.
The project is being developed by Can Gio Tourism Urban Area JSC, a subsidiary of Vingroup.
Under HCMC’s 2021–2030 master plan with a vision to 2050, Can Gio District is positioned to become an ecological urban hub that protects its biosphere reserve while advancing the marine economy.
Strategic development goals include an international transshipment port, a free trade zone, logistics, tourism, coastal eco-urban growth, and renewable energy.
In addition to the tourism urban area, HCMC is planning the Can Gio International Transshipment Port at an estimated cost of around US$6 billion.
