HCMC – Tan Son Nhat International Airport is expected to serve about 145,000 passengers per day during the Lunar New Year 2026 holiday, with peak days reaching more than 165,000 passengers, reported local media.
The peak travel period at the airport will run from February 14 to February 22, 2026. During this time, the airport is scheduled to operate around 940 flights per day, including about 340 international flights and 600 domestic flights. This represents an increase of about 25% compared to the current schedule of 754 flights per day and a rise of 7% year-on-year.
The busiest days before Tet are forecast to be February 13 and 14 (the 26th and 27th days of the twelfth lunar month), with about 1,017 flights per day. After Tet, the peak is expected on February 22 and 23 (the 6th and 7th days of the first lunar month), with around 1,025 flights per day.
On average, the airport will handle about 145,000 passengers daily, including roughly 60,000 international and 85,000 domestic passengers. This is up about 20% from the current level of 120,000 passengers per day and about 8% higher than the same period in 2025. The highest passenger volume is expected on February 21 and 22 (the 5th and 6th days of the first lunar month), when the airport may serve more than 165,000 passengers per day.
Tan Son Nhat International Airport said it is coordinating with relevant units to implement passenger service plans and ensure security and operational safety during the Tet holiday. Flight information will be continuously updated on the FIDS system at terminals T1 and T3, while check-in counters, baggage belts and boarding gates will be operated flexibly across terminals T1, T2 and T3 in line with actual conditions.
The airport is also working with ground service providers to arrange operations for flights, particularly night-time services, to ensure adequate safety and handling capacity.
In 2025, Tan Son Nhat handled 255,376 flights, including 109,652 international and 145,724 domestic flights, serving more than 42.4 million passengers, of whom over 17.8 million were international and nearly 24.6 million domestic.
All domestic flight reallocations at the airport have been completed. Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, Vasco, Bamboo Airways, Vietravel Airlines and Sun PhuQuoc Airways operate domestic flights at Terminal T3, while VietJet Air continues to operate domestic flights at Terminal T1. This will be the first Lunar New Year holiday with Terminal T3 in operation.
According to the HCMC Department of Construction, the new terminal arrangement and related measures are expected to increase passenger throughput and ease congestion at terminals T1 and T2. The department forecasts very high operating intensity at the airport during Tet 2026 and said the city will continue to deploy inter-agency task forces and enhance public transport, taxi and contracted vehicle services to manage passenger flows and traffic connections to the airport during the holiday period.
