As one of Vietnam’s largest financial institutions, the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) matches its scale with an equally significant commitment to social responsibility. Each year, the bank undertakes extensive charitable programs across a range of sectors—from housing and education to healthcare and infrastructure. In 2024 alone, Vietcombank committed VND861 billion and disbursed VND571 billion for corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives across the country.
Building homes for the poor
In May, Nguyen Van Hong, a war veteran in poor health, raising three children and caring for his elderly mother, moved into a new home in Trung Loc Commune, Ha Tinh Province. His previous residence was in a severely run-down condition. The construction was made possible by a VND150 million grant from Vietcombank and volunteer labor from the Ha Tinh Provincial Military Command.
Hong’s story is one among many. On June 5, 2025, during a conference on bank-business matching for economic growth in Thanh Hoa Province, Vietcombank awarded a VND15 billion social welfare package to fund new housing for poor households, war veterans, and solidarity homes.
The bank has also launched other CSR efforts in Thanh Hoa, including school and medical station construction, elimination of dilapidated housing, and support for vulnerable groups of people. In 2024 alone, Vietcombank contributed VND199 billion to these efforts and has pledged another VND96 billion for 2025.
Further contributions include VND17 billion to the Kon Tum Provincial Fund for Eliminating Dilapidated Housing made on March 28, 2025, VND1 billion to a similar initiative in My Hao Town, Hung Yen Province on February 23, 2025, and especially VND100 billion in October 2024 to support a nationwide campaign to eradicate substandard housing, launched by the prime minister and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
Supporting education
On June 15, the Hai Duong Department of Education and Training received VND10 billion from Vietcombank to build Thanh Tung Kindergarten (Thanh Mien District) and Tan Binh Secondary School (Hai Duong City). The goal: improved facilities and better learning environments.

Over the past five years, Vietcombank has contributed VND63 billion to social initiatives in Hai Duong, with a strong focus on education.
In another educational initiative, on May 17, 2025, at the School of Information and Communication Technology – Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietcombank awarded 20 scholarships worth a total of VND200 million to outstanding final-year students.
On March 3, 2025, Vietcombank Ha Thanh, in collaboration with the Vietcombank Training and Human Resources Development School, presented a VND300 million education sponsorship to the Banking Academy. This event was not only part of the bank’s broader educational support efforts, but also a demonstration of its strong commitment to developing high-quality human resources for the banking and finance sector.
These initiatives form part of Vietcombank’s broader sustainable development strategy, aimed at building a strong learning ecosystem and empowering young talent.
Other social welfare programs
On June 15, 2025, Ho Chi Minh City hosted the “Proud of My Beloved City” charity walk-run, organized by the Vietnam Journalists Association and the HCMC Journalists Association. At the event, Vietcombank donated VND200 million to support Agent Orange/dioxin victims.
Earlier, on April 20, 2025, the groundbreaking ceremony for four rural bridges was held in Giong Trom District, Ben Tre Province. Vietcombank contributed VND10 billion—out of a VND14 billion investment—through advocacy by the Internal Political Security Department at the Ministry of Public Security.
These bridges will replace aging, narrow structures, improve transportation, and boost the local economy by facilitating the movement of goods and people. At the same event, Vietcombank and the ministry also distributed 200 gift packages (each worth VND500,000) to disadvantaged households in Hung Nhuong, Tan Hao, Hung Le, and Tan Loi Thanh communes.
Over the past five years, Vietcombank has provided VND18.5 billion for social welfare programs in Ben Tre alone, excluding this bridge initiative.

Vietcombank has also supported healthcare infrastructure. On February 14, 2025, Hanoi Medical University Hospital’s Hoang Mai Campus inaugurated its outpatient, emergency, intensive care, rehabilitation, and imaging departments.
The Hoang Mai Campus, launched in 2024, plays a vital role in easing overcrowding at central hospitals and enhancing healthcare access in northern Vietnam. Vietcombank contributed VND2.55 billion for facility renovations and the purchase of essential medical equipment.
