HCMC – Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has met with Lan Tianli, chairman of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, to discuss strengthening cooperation between Guangxi and several northern Vietnamese provinces, according to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA).
The meeting, held on November 6 on the sidelines of the eighth Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit in China, focused on bolstering ties between Guangxi and the Vietnamese provinces of Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Cao Bang, and Ha Giang.
Chinh emphasized the long-standing cooperation between Vietnam and Guangxi, noting that Vietnam has been Guangxi’s top trade partner for 25 consecutive years. He expressed a desire to enhance collaboration in trade, border management, and infrastructure development.
Chinh encouraged both sides to advance key agreements, including regular high-level exchanges and the joint committee’s work on cross-border issues. He also proposed collaboration on infrastructure projects, such as a planned standard-gauge railway linking Guangxi and Vietnam, and a smart border gate model to improve customs processes.
The Vietnamese prime minister further requested that Guangxi facilitate the export of Vietnamese goods, especially agricultural products, by establishing inspection and quarantine stations. He welcomed investment from Guangxi in areas such as green agriculture, clean energy, and sustainable development.
Lan Tianli expressed Guangxi’s commitment to fostering increased cooperation with Vietnamese provinces. He underscored the importance of infrastructure connections, including a railway link from Guangxi to the Dong Dang–Hanoi and Mong Cai–Haiphong routes. He also highlighted opportunities for cooperation in the digital economy, electricity trading, and cross-border crime prevention.
