Vietnam elected to World Heritage Committee

HCMC – Vietnam has been elected as a member of the World Heritage Committee for the 2023 – 2027 term, receiving the highest number of votes among Asian-Pacific countries.

The election took place during the 24th session of the General Assembly of States Parties to the World Heritage Convention.

Vietnam garnered 121 out of 171 valid votes, securing the top position among the four Asian-Pacific countries and the second position among the nine elected states from five regions.

This marks the second time that Vietnam has been elected to this executive body of UNESCO for cultural affairs, according to Ha Kim Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Le Thi Hong Van, permanent representative of Vietnam to UNESCO, said that as a member of the World Heritage Committee, Vietnam would have favorable conditions to actively contribute to the implementation of UNESCO’s general programs.
