CAN THO – Vietnam exported more than 900,000 tons of fertilizers from January to September 2021, or 100,000 tons a month on average, at US$363 per ton.
Data of the General Department of Vietnam Customs showed that in September alone, the country exported nearly 88,330 tons of fertilizers worth some US$37.7 million, increasing 5.8% in volume and 15.8% in value against the previous month.
However, fertilizer exports in September dropped 46.9% in volume and 24.5% in value year-on-year.
Fertilizer exports from January to September increased in all volume, value and prices compared with the same period last year.
The country exported 918,570 tons of fertilizers worth over US$333 million, or US$363 per ton on average, in nine months, increasing 6.4%, 32.5% and 24.6% year-on-year, respectively.
Vietnam’s biggest fertilizer importer in January-September was Cambodia, with 402,195 tons worth nearly US$154 million, up 36.11% in volume and 66.23% in value year-on-year, followed by Malaysia with 72,513 tons worth over US$16 million, up 0.72% in volume and 29.73% in value year-on-year.
Besides, the country exported 42,075 tons of fertilizers worth over US$17.2 million to Laos, surging 25.22% in volume and 32.41% in value year-on-year, and 38,750 tons worth over US$18.2 million to Mozambique, soaring 374.47% in volume and 425.39% in value year-on-year.
The country’s fertilizer exports to the Philippines, South Korea and Taiwan also rose sharply, with a respective revenue growth rate of 249.86%, 118.89% and 83.9%.
Domestic fertilizer prices have risen steeply from the beginning of this year.
In the Mekong Delta, the country’s biggest farming region, Ca Mau and Phu My nitrogenous fertilizers are currently priced at VND820,000-850,000 per bag of 50 kilograms, up VND70,000-80,000 per bag versus half a month ago.
The respective prices of Ninh Binh and Chinese nitrogenous fertilizers are VND810,000-840,000 and VND820,000-840,000 per bag of 50 kilograms, up VND70,000-80,000 and VND80,000-100,000 per bag from half a month ago.
The prices of nitrogenous fertilizers in the Mekong Delta have edged up by VND300,000-350,000 per bag of 50 kilograms compared with three months ago.
The prices of DAP fertilizers have also rocketed, even exceeding VND1 million per bag of 50 kilograms.
Hong Ha and Dinh Vu DAP fertilizers are currently priced at VND1.2-1.3 million and VND930,000-950,000 per bag of 50 kilograms, respectively. The respective prices of the Philippines and South Korean DAP fertilizers are VND1.05-1.1 million and VND1.18-1.28 million per bag of 50 kilograms.
