HCMC – The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) has introduced five-year anti-dumping duties on wind turbine towers imported from China, with the decision taking effect 15 days after its signing on December 24, the local media reported.
Wind turbine towers, which connect turbines to their bases, constitute 5-7% of the total value of a wind turbine system, according to the ministry’s website.
An investigation revealed that Chinese manufacturers were selling wind turbine towers at unfairly low prices, leading to significant harm to Vietnam’s domestic producers. The damage included declines in production, market share, sales, revenue, profits, and employment within the local wind turbine tower industry during the investigation period.
The MOIT highlighted that Vietnamese producers are capable of manufacturing high-quality wind turbine towers for export to markets such as the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
One Chinese company was exempted from the duties as it was not found to be involved in dumping practices. The Trade Remedies Authority of Vietnam, under the MOIT, will monitor and review the duties to ensure they remain appropriate over time.
