HCMC – The Ministry of Health confirmed 5,155 fresh cases of Covid-19 this morning, August 9, including 15 imported cases and 5,140 locally-infected cases in 22 provinces and cities.

HCMC as the current biggest coronavirus hotspot accounted for the most, at 2,349 cases. The neighboring province of Binh Duong came second with 1,725 cases, followed by Long An, Dong Nai, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provinces with 287, 183, and 177 cases, respectively. The remaining cases were detected in 17 other localities.

The latest domestic cases raised Vietnam’s domestic infection tally in the latest outbreak, which began on April 27, to 211,630 cases. Of them, 68,723 patients have fully recovered from the disease.

Yesterday, the Health Ministry began allocating the first batch of 10,000 vials of Remdesivir, which is used for treatment of Covid-19 patients, to Covid-19 treatment hospitals. The shipment has arrived in HCMC and the next batches will be delivered to hospitals in the city and other southern localities, where many severely-ill coronavirus patients are being treated.

HCMC since late June has started setting up Covid-19 field hospitals to cope with the fourth wave. Currently, the city is home to 15 field hospitals and 42 hospitals and medical facilities to serve the treatment of Covid-19 patients.
