Vietnam reports 63 Covid-19 infections, two deaths

HCMC – The day’s total number of Covid-19 cases reached 196, with 63 new domestic cases reported this evening, June 11, while two more Covid-19 deaths were confirmed, according to the Ministry of Health.

Among the latest cases, Bac Giang Province reported 27 infections, HCMC accounted for 20, Bac Ninh had 15 and Hanoi detected one. As many as 56 cases were found at quarantine centers or areas under lockdown.

The ministry also reported two more Covid-19 deaths who were women and suffered late-stage cancer.

The 65-year-old woman, who lived in Ninh Binh Province, was admitted to K Hospital’s Tan Trieu Campus in Hanoi City for treatment of proctitis on May 3. She was diagnosed with proctitis, cervical cancer and cystitis. On May 16, she tested positive for Covid-19 and was transferred to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

Despite treatment efforts, she died of septic shock, pneumonia caused by Covid-19 and invasive candidiasis on June 10.

Another Covid-19 death was identified as a 59-year-old resident of Ha Nam Province. While receiving treatment for gallbladder cancer at K Hospital, she tested positive for the virus on May 11. She was transferred to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases for Covid-19 treatment.

She was pronounced dead on June 10 due to septic shock, pneumonia caused by Covid-19 and late-stage gallbladder cancer.

In another development, Haiphong City and Hai Duong Province will relax anti-Covid-19 measures due to their effective control of Covid-19.

The Haiphong government today said that the city had undergone 14 days without any new locally-infected Covid-19 cases, so to get people’s daily lives and production activities back on track, the city will relax some anti-virus measures on June 13.

Accordingly, parks and flower gardens are allowed to reopen, while local residents can join outdoor sports activities, but have to avoid gatherings of over 20 persons and keep a safe physical distance of at least two meters.

Besides, restaurants and eateries can resume their operations, but must comply with safety guidelines, while taxis will be allowed to resume, but use not more than 50% of seats.

Apart from the reopening of tourist sites, lodging facilities can also reopen, but are told not to serve people arriving from Covid-19-hit areas.

Meanwhile, Hai Duong Province will start to relax anti-virus measures from midnight on June 12. Trading service businesses, such as wholesalers, retailers, lottery ticket vendors, hotels, lodging facilities, restaurants and eateries, sports centers, historical sites and scenic attractions can reopen, but must comply with safety guidelines. Restaurants and eateries are told to continue suspending in-person services.

Passenger transport can resume, while festivals and cultural, sporting and religious events, some non-essential services, including karaoke, spa and massage parlors, bars and game shops, remain suspended.
