HCMC – Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs met with Vietnamese companies investing in Indonesia on March 13 to discuss ways to expand trade and investment under the two countries’ Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Nguyen Manh Cuong, deputy minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired the meeting at the ministry’s headquarters with the Vietnamese ambassador to Indonesia, ministry officials and representatives of several companies operating in the Indonesian market.
Participants included Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Vingroup, TH True Milk, FPT, Mobile World Investment Corporation, Thanh Thanh Cong–Bien Hoa and CT Group.
The ministry said economic cooperation between the two countries has expanded in recent years. Bilateral trade reached US$17.2 billion in 2025, approaching the US$18 billion target set for 2028.
Tourism flows have also increased. Around 203,000 Indonesian visitors traveled to Vietnam in 2025, more than double the level recorded before the Covid-19 pandemic.
Vietnamese companies have begun expanding operations in Indonesia. Vingroup has started building an electric vehicle ecosystem there through the presence of VinFast, Xanh SM and V-Green.
Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air operate routes linking Hanoi and HCMC with Jakarta and Bali. Other firms, including FPT, Mobile World Group and TH True Milk, are studying plans to broaden their presence in the Indonesian market.
Business representatives at the meeting praised support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia in facilitating investment and business activities.
Companies also described Indonesia as a large market, noting it is the biggest economy in Southeast Asia, a member of the G20 and home to about 280 million people.
Cuong acknowledged the efforts of Vietnamese firms expanding investment in Indonesia and reiterated that economic diplomacy remains a priority for the ministry.
He called on companies to strengthen economic links between the two countries and help translate cooperation opportunities into concrete business results.
