HCMC – The Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security will issue electronic identification cards (e-ID) for citizens to transact with public administrative agencies without having to use a physical ID card from early July.
To use e-ID, Vietnamese citizens must have the VNeID mobile app on their smartphones and their account on this app must be at level 2.
The e-ID will contain personal information such as full name, personal identification number, nationality, place of birth, place of origin, religion, blood type, permanent address, temporary address, phone number, email address, occupation, and biometrics including face, fingerprints and iris.
Health insurance card information, social insurance card details, driver’s license, birth certificate, and marriage certificate can also be integrated into the e-ID card.
When conducting a transaction, if there is any discrepancy between the information on the physical ID card and the information in the e-ID, the information from the e-ID will prevail.
e-ID cards can be locked upon the owner’s request or in case of the owner’s violation of the terms of use of the app.
