HCMC – Cuban First Secretary and President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez has presented the Order of José Martí, Cuba’s highest honor, to Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and President To Lam.

The event took place at the Palace of the Revolution in Havana, shortly after the high-level talks between the two leaders on September 26 (local time).

The ceremony was attended by senior officials from both countries, with Cuban representatives including National Assembly President Esteban Lazo Hernández and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz.

The award is a testament to Lam’s great contributions to the development of the solidarity, friendship, and faithful relations between Vietnam and Cuba, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

Lam expressed his gratitude and honor for receiving Cuba’s highest accolade. He said the presentation of the order is a vivid demonstration of the importance Cuba attaches to the special friendship and solidarity between the two nations, which have been carefully cultivated by the leaders and peoples of both countries over generations.

He reaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent stance of supporting the just cause of the Cuban people and demanding the immediate and unconditional lifting of the U.S. administration’s embargo against Cuba, in accordance with United Nations resolutions.

During the earlier talks, Lam informed his host of Vietnam’s donation of 10,000 tons of rice to the Cuban people. The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam has presented 500 computers to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has sent presents to the Central Union of Cuban Workers.

Vietnamese localities have also contributed various gifts to Cuban counterparts.
