HCMC – The VN-Index of the Hochiminh Stock Exchange extended its rising streak to the fifth consecutive session today, August 7, gaining 1.42 points, or 0.17%, at 841.46.
Market breadth was positive with 185 winners and 177 losers. Trade volume totaled 259.88 million shares worth VND4.56 trillion, up 1.1% and 9.7%, respectively, from the session earlier. Block deals contributed VND874.3 billion to the total value.
Many stocks in the VN30 basket gained ground, underpinning the main index. Lender CTG and gas firm GAS added 1.6% and 1%, respectively, while dairy firm VNM, brewery firm SAB, lender VCB and steelmaker HPG traded in positive territory.
The stock VIC of Vingroup and its housing arm VHM stood at their reference prices, while lender TCB inched down by 0.3%.
Construction firm ROS was the most actively traded stock on the southern bourse with matching volume of 16.3 million shares, finishing the day up 5%.
Another speculative stock, property group FLC, made a strong rally and saw some 6.4 million shares transacted. Building material firm VGC stole the limelight, going up to the ceiling price at the close.
The Hanoi Stock Exchange saw the HNX-Index fluctuate in the negative territory as the index fell 0.57 points, or 0.51%, against the previous session, at 112.78. Trade volume dropped by 26.3% at 30.6 million shares, while the value amounted to VND317 billion, down 21.3%.
Most of the stocks in the HNX30 basket lost steam, with forestry corporation VIF dipping by 4.6% and lender SHB tumbling by 2.3%.
