HCMC – After 20 years of planning, the Xuyen Tam Canal rehabilitation project in HCMC is set to commence its first construction package this August.
The project will start in Go Vap District in August 2024, with completion expected by April 2025. In Binh Thanh District, construction is planned to begin in April 2025 and conclude by April 2028.
With a total investment of VND9,600 billion, the project includes dredging, environmental improvement, and infrastructure construction along the heavily polluted Xuyen Tam Canal. This involves a 6.7-kilometer main canal from the Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe Canal to the Vam Thuat River and three branches each stretching over 2.2 kilometers.
To accelerate progress, HCMC People’s Committee Chairman Nguyen Van Mai has instructed the project management board to work closely with Go Vap and Binh Thanh districts to expedite land clearance and compensation.
These districts are tasked with developing detailed plans to ensure the full disbursement of 100% of the allocated funds for 2024.
Chairman Mai also requested relevant units to finalize investment procedures for the social housing project at No. 4 Phan Chu Trinh Street, Ward 12, Binh Thanh District. The goal is to start construction in June 2024 and hand over resettlement apartments to Binh Thanh District by April 2025.
