World’s largest container ship arrives in Ba Ria-Vung Tau

HCMC – OOCL Spain, one of the world’s largest container ships, arrived at Gemalink Port in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau for cargo handling today, March 30.

During its first maiden voyage to connect Asia and Europe lasting 84 days, the ship will make port calls in numerous venues including Shanghai, Xiamen, Hong Kong, Cai Mep (Vietnam), Singapore, Piraeus, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Valencia and Abu Dhabi.

With a capacity of up to 24,188 twenty-foot equivalent units, a total length of 400 meters and a width of 61 meters, the vessel was one of the world’s largest container ships.

OOCL Spain, launched on February 16, 2023, has been certified as an environmentally friendly smart ship by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Speaking at the welcoming ceremony, Do Cong Khanh, chairman of Gemalink, said the arrival of OOCL Spain at Gemalink is a milestone in the development of Gemalink, the Cai Mep port cluster and the Vietnamese maritime sector.

This is the first time the Vietnam port system has welcomed such a large container ship.
