HCMC – Yamaha Vietnam has announced the recall of 159,320 motorcycles due to issues with engine number stamping, which could affect vehicle registration, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
The free recall program will run from March 4, 2025, to March 4, 2026.
A total of 33 models and versions from the Exciter, FreeGo, Janus, Jupiter, Latte, Lexi, Nozza Grande, NVX, Sirius, and PG-1 series are included in the recall. These motorcycles were manufactured and assembled between October 18, 2021, and November 24, 2024.
Owners can take their vehicles to an authorized YFS dealership or service station for a free inspection and assessment of the engine number stamping surface. The process includes an oil change and minor maintenance and takes approximately one hour and 30 minutes per motorcycle.
If an engine number re-stamp is required, Yamaha Vietnam may negotiate with customers to buy back the affected vehicle.
Yamaha urges owners of recalled models to get their motorcycles inspected to ensure compliance with vehicle registration, license plate issuance, and ownership transfer regulations.
The recall follows reports that some customers had their Grande motorcycle registration applications rejected in certain localities. Yamaha Vietnam investigated the issue and found that factory workers had independently repaired defective engine casings without properly canceling the original engine number.
After a comprehensive review, Yamaha Vietnam decided to recall all motorcycles that may have been affected by improper engine number re-stamping.
