HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, May 10, confirmed 2,855 new Covid cases, up 679 against the previous day.
Hanoi City still recorded the highest number of fresh infections, at 577, followed by Phu Tho with 230. Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Nghe An and Quang Ninh detected 106-156 cases each, while HCMC, which used to be the country’s coronavirus hotbed, had 17 cases.
The country has so far reported over 10.68 million Covid cases, with over 9.3 million of them having recovered from the disease. One Covid death was reported in Tra Vinh Province.
The ministry today received over 7.2 million doses of the Moderna Covid vaccine from the Australian Government. These doses will be administered to children 5 to 11, the local media reported.
To help Vietnam quickly complete the vaccination of children aged 5 to 11, Australia had earlier pledged to donate over 14 million doses to the country, including over 7.2 million Moderna doses and more than seven million Pfizer doses.
Since the start of the Covid pandemic in Vietnam, Australia has donated the former over 7.8 million doses of the Covid vaccine for adults.
As of May 9, the country had given over 1.85 million doses to children under 12, Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen told a ceremony to receive the vaccine doses today.
The ministry has set a target to complete the vaccination of this age group in June, said Tuyen.
The Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau has issued a dispatch dissolving the provincial anti-Covid steering committee as the pandemic has been brought under control, while all socio-economic activities have got back to normal.
The Mekong Delta province had earlier suspended 111 mobile healthcare stations for the same reason.
