HCMC – The Vietnamese Embassy in Finland said on September 2 that the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to temporarily recognize Vietnam’s new passport provided that information about the passport holder’s Place of Birth (POB) is added.
Finland said it would recognize Vietnamese passports which have been issued since early July only when the POB field is added and certified.
The decision was made by the Finnish agency on Vietnam’s National Day, according to the Vietnamese Embassy in Finland.
On August 11, the Embassy of Finland announced a suspension of the recognition of Vietnam’s new passport as it lacks the holder’s POB.
Spain earlier did not recognize the newly designed passports of Vietnam, but later reversed its decision, requiring POB information to be added in the new passport. Germany did the same.
France, Britain and Australia recognize the new passports.
Meanwhile, the Embassy of the United States in Vietnam has advised visa applicants to add the POB field in their new passports, the local media reported.
The Czech Republic still suspends the recognition of Vietnam’s new passport.
Vietnam has issued new passports since early July.
