VAS: Home to Cambridge’s Outstanding Scholars

Must read

Over the last decade, as a Cambridge pioneer in Vietnam, Vietnam Australia International School (VAS) has consistently excelled in student participation and has achieved high results in annual Cambridge exams. To date, the school has produced 2 “Top of the World” and 8 “Top in Vietnam” winners.

VAS recently held an award ceremony to recognize more than 1,200 students for their outstanding performance in Cambridge international benchmark exams organized by Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) including Cambridge Primary Checkpoint, Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint, Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge AS & A Level, and Cambridge English exams such as Starters, Movers, Flyers, PET and KET.

In the school year 2022-2023, VAS students have achieved great results with 4 VAS students achieving titles of “Top in Vietnam”, 170 students getting a perfect score in all subjects, and over 800 students being recognized for their high achievements.

VAS Students’ Impressive Cambridge Achievements

The Cambridge Education Program is one of the most popular international education programs, which is being offered by more than 10,000 schools in 160 countries worldwide. The program has been selected to be delivered in parallel with the national education program by many countries such as Sweden, Germany, Italy, Spain, Indonesia, India, and many more.

VAS was one of the pioneers in Vietnam to introduce the Cambridge curriculum in the 2013-2014 academic year.  Since then, the program has been growing year-on-year both in student numbers and education quality. VAS is currently teaching nearly 8,000 students at its six CAIE-certified campuses.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Mr. Melvyn Lim, representing CAIE, noted that the Cambridge qualifications system is widely recognized by top universities around the world and have the same quality and value standards as equivalent qualifications in any country in the world where Cambridge teaches the program and organizes exams.

According to Mr. Lim, Cambridge’s IGCSE and A Level program provides students with a solid foundation of knowledge and outstanding skills, giving them an advantage when applying for competitive majors at the university level, and can shorten their college years.

“Looking at the achievements you have achieved today, I see that VAS has been successful in creating the foundation and nurturing the important skills that are typical of Cambridge curriculum students, including critical thinking, problem-solving skills, creativity, and innovation, as well as a spirit of curiosity, daring to explore and commit,” he added.

Meaningful messages from VAS teachers and students

At the award ceremony, attending parents heard many meaningful messages from CAIE representatives, VAS Board representatives, and VAS students.

On behalf of VAS, Mr. Nigel Cropley, Executive Cluster School Director of the Sala campus, expressed great pride and shared some touching words with attending parents: “I am extremely honored to share with you that your children have achieved outstanding results compared to their peers on a global scale in many respects.”

He also emphasized to students they were awarded not by luck, but by many other factors including studying hard, determining to become the best version of themselves, overcoming challenges with perseverance and having never given up, and thanks to the support and encouragement from the family. “Therefore, after this ceremony, do not forget to thank your parents and hug them tightly,” he said.

Mr. Nigel also told the students: “Think about the true values of yourself, because these are very valuable things, even more valuable than academic achievements. Never lose the meaning of a compassionate heart. Be yourself, try to reduce the amount of time you spend on social media and mobile phones, and spend more time talking to your family and friends”.

Tuong Loan, one of the four outstanding students receiving the “Top in Vietnam” title, said: “Studying helps us develop in a constantly changing world.” According to Loan, everyone will undergo changes in life, and although it might be scary, it is also a wonderful thing to look forward to in the process of growing up.

Representing students to receive high achievements in the Checkpoint Lower Secondary exams, Maja Dao stated that although she studied in Poland before and had never achieved a perfect score in Math and English, when integrating into the international environment at VAS, she achieved excellent results.

Maja also shared her study tips: trying various methods and finding the best study method, maintaining the habit of reading books, and developing self-learning skills. “Self-learning will be an important life skill throughout life. The important thing is that we should strive to become the best version of ourselves. Just keep trying until you reach success and never give up,” Maja added.
