HCMC – Frontline forces and medical workers will be withdrawn from HCMC before October 15 as the Covid situation is stabilizing in the city.

The Ministry of Health asked the HCMC government to direct the municipal Department of Health and districts and Thu Duc City to quickly make plans to send the forces back to their localities, according to a dispatch sent by Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son to the HCMC government on October 6.

After the withdrawal, these forces will continue their work in their localities, while the city must restructure the system of anti-pandemic forces and facilities, the local media reported.

To date, the pandemic in HCMC has been brought under control, while the city has issued Directive 18 to adapt safely to Covid and gradually help the economy recover, said the Deputy Minister of Health.

Earlier, to support the city in the fight against Covid-19, the ministry mobilized anti-Covid forces from many northern and central provinces and cities and dispatched them to HCMC. Many have remained in HCMC to support the city since July.

To ensure the health of medical workers and anti-Covid forces, it is necessary to send them back, Son said.

Speaking at a ceremony to honor frontline forces and medical workers on October 6, HCMC Chairman Phan Van Mai thanked them for their contribution to the city’s fight against the pandemic.

The city has received the support of over 6,500 medical workers from 40 central hospitals and 37 departments of health in other provinces and cities.

To reduce the Covid death rate, the Ministry of Health established four intensive care centers with over 2,000 medical workers, while the Ministry of National Defense also dispatched more than 1,400 nurses and doctors to the city.

Besides, over 3,380 medical students and lecturers from medicine schools nationwide have joined the fight against Covid-19 in the city by helping with Covid testing and vaccination.
