HCMC – Vietnam has set sugar import quotas at 126,000 tons for 2024, with auctions scheduled for September, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT).

The Agency of Foreign Trade at the MOIT said that the auctions will allocate the 2024 sugar import quotas under regulations set out in the 2017 Law on Foreign Trade Management, Decree No. 69/2018/ND-CP, and Circular No. 11/2022/TT-BCT.

The sugar imports will be categorized under H.S. code 17.01. The ministry will coordinate with other government agencies to organize the auctions.

The ministry has also issued Decision 227, establishing an eight-member council to oversee the quota allocation.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan will chair the council, with Tran Thanh Hai, deputy director of the Agency of Foreign Trade, serving as vice chairman.

The other members include representatives from agencies under the ministry, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
