HCMC – The government of HCMC has sought approval to add a metro line between District 7 and Can Gio District to the list of projects eligible for special policies under the National Assembly’s Resolution 188.
The HCMC People’s Committee has written to the prime minister regarding investment in the urban rail line connecting District 7 and Can Gio District.
According to the prime minister’s decision approving HCMC’s master plan for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision to 2050, Metro Line 12, which connects to Can Gio, has been identified as a potential route in the city’s planning.
The 48.7-kilometer rail line will link Nguyen Van Linh Avenue in District 7 and a 39-hectare site adjacent to the Vinhomes Green Paradise urban and tourism project in Can Gio District.
This line has also been included in the revised HCMC master plan to 2040, with a vision to 2060, which is currently under review by the Ministry of Construction and is expected to be submitted to the PM for approval soon.
On March 17, Vingroup submitted a proposal to the HCMC People’s Committee to invest in the metro line. The city government is working with the investor to carry out the next steps.
To accelerate the investment process, the HCMC People’s Committee has proposed that the PM include the metro line in the list of projects eligible for pilot special mechanisms and policies for urban railways to put implementation on fast track.
At the same time, the city will coordinate with the Ministry of Construction to report and propose that the Government consider applying special policies to the project.
