HCMC – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son has called on the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to support Vietnam in mobilizing resources for large-scale infrastructure development projects in the new era.

During a meeting with AIIB President Jin Liqun on May 26, on the sidelines of the 46th ASEAN Summit and related summits in Malaysia, Son praised AIIB’s significant role and active contributions to sustainable development and regional connectivity, including in Vietnam.

He expressed hope that AIIB would prioritize cooperation and investment in key areas aligned with Vietnam’s current development needs. These include cross-border infrastructure, green infrastructure, sustainable development, and climate change response. He also proposed that AIIB consider allocating concessional financing for technical assistance and project funding for developing countries.

Son emphasized that the Vietnamese government is placing strong priority on investment in innovation, science and technology, and infrastructure development. He urged AIIB to actively assist Vietnam in mobilizing resources to implement major infrastructure projects.

In response, AIIB President Jin affirmed the bank’s readiness to support Vietnam by offering financial assistance through various instruments. He highlighted AIIB’s interest in strategic infrastructure initiatives in Vietnam, particularly road and rail projects that would enhance regional connectivity. Jin also shared his interest in potential projects in renewable energy, healthcare, and climate adaptation.
