HCMC – Vietnam Airlines and its affiliates broke ground on an in-flight catering center and an aircraft maintenance facility at the under-construction Long Thanh International Airport on the morning of June 15.
The two projects, with a total investment of nearly VND1.8 trillion, are being developed by Vietnam Air Catering Services (VACS) and Vietnam Airlines Engineering Company (VAECO), both subsidiaries of Vietnam Airlines, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
These facilities are part of component project 4, which covers the aviation services area of Long Thanh airport. This zone is designated for the development of aircraft maintenance, ground services, in-flight catering, logistics, and aviation engineering.
The goal is to build a modern, integrated, and internationally standardized service ecosystem at this transit hub.
The No. 1 in-flight catering facility is being built on a 30,646-square-meter plot labeled E-09, with an estimated investment of VND687 billion. In its initial phase, the facility will have the capacity to produce 20,000 meals per day, which can be expanded to 40,000 meals per day in line with the development of the airport.
The No. 1 aircraft maintenance facility is being developed on a 45,525-square-meter plot labeled E-01, with a phase-one investment of over VND1.1 trillion. This integrated aviation engineering complex will feature a hangar capable of servicing two wide-body aircraft (Code E) and two narrow-body aircraft (Code C) simultaneously.
It will also include equipment workshops, technical zones, material warehouses, and auxiliary systems. The facility is designed to handle between 120 and 150 aircraft maintenance operations annually.
The project is expected to be completed in time for the commercial launch of Long Thanh.
Once operational, it will be one of the most advanced aviation engineering centers in Vietnam, providing maintenance services for aircraft models such as Airbus A320, A321, A350, and Boeing 787.
