HCMC – Vietnam expects to serve five million international visitors who hold Covid-19 vaccine passports next year, said Nguyen Trung Khanh, head of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
At a press briefing on December 24 in Nghe An Province to introduce a seminar on tourism recovery and development, Khanh said the country also expected to serve some 60 million domestic tourists and earn VND400 trillion in tourism revenue.
Khanh added that in 2019, Vietnam served 18 million foreign tourist arrivals and 85 million domestic arrivals, the local media reported.
The number of foreign visitors tumbled to 3.8 million last year. This year, the sector has served some 40 million domestic guests, down 29% year-on-year, earning VND180 trillion.
Late last month, the Government welcomed international tourists who held Covid-19 vaccine passports to five localities.
At the end of this year, Vietnam expects to welcome some 3,500 foreign arrivals.
The seminar, “Vietnam’s tourism-recovery and development”, will be held on December 25 with the attendance of some 300 guests, including National Assembly deputies, experts, representatives of enterprises and organizations in the tourism sector.
Ta Van Ha, deputy head of the National Assembly’s Committee for Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents and Children, said since early last year, the local tourism sector has been heavily hit by Covid-19.
Therefore, the seminar would focus on assessing Vietnam’s tourism sector amid the Covid-19 pandemic, realizing opportunities and challenges after the pandemic, proposing policies supporting enterprises and residents, helping the tourism sector recover, as well as offering long-term solutions for the sector’s sustainable development.
