HCMC – The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has told those airlines operating international flights to Vietnam to improve control on travel documents of incoming passengers to minimize the number of travelers being denied entry upon arrival.
According to industry statistics, there has been a significant rise in international passengers denied entry into Vietnam upon arrival at Vietnamese international airports due to eligibility problems with their travel documents.
In 2020, there were 506 such cases and the number dropped to 404 in 2022. But it surged to 886 last year. In the first half of 2023 alone, 600 passengers could not enter into the nation even though they had arrived at airports in Vietnam.
This increase not only leads to financial losses for airlines but also adds pressure on airports of entry and poses security concerns, according to the CAAV.
The CAAV has requested airlines to take stronger measures to reduce the number of passengers denied entry. Additionally, airport authorities must rigorously verify passengers’ travel documents to ensure eligibility for entry and transit in Vietnam.
